Ron Rivera on why Commanders have fallen behind in NFC East: ‘Quarterback’

The Washington Commands haven’t been able to get the memo that NFC East is back yet.

The NFL’s best team, the Philadelphia Eagles at 5-5, and two 4-1 teams, Dallas Cowboys , have surprised many across the NFL. The NFC East has had a difficult season in recent years and the Commanders at 1-5 still feel that pain this season.

So, what is the reason the Commanders are at the bottom? On Monday, Ron Rivera, the head coach, quickly responded.

“Quarterback,” he told reporters.

Carson Wentz was the choice of Rivera and the front office when they made a switch at the position. They needed someone to replace Wentz in the offseason, so Rivera and the front office jumped at the opportunity to trade for the veteran signal-caller who has been with the Eagles.

Wentz was thrust into the Commanders system that has many good weapons: Terry McLaurin at receiver and Curtis Samuel at receiver, with good running backs Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson Jr., who made their debut on Sunday after being shot twice prior to the season. McKissic.

TITANS ESCAPE COMMANDERS’ LAST THREAT AFTER GOAL-LINE INTERCEPTION

But what’s written on paper doesn’t always translate to the field. While Wentz is fourth in the league with 1,390 yards, he has a 38.0 QBR, good for 24th. He has 10 touchdowns and six interceptions, one of which came on the final drive Sunday against the Tennessee Titans on the goal line. Washington would have won the game if he had scored a touchdown.

While Rivera was the man, the Cowboys’ backup, Cooper Rush led the team to four straight wins including one over Commanders.

“They started off with Dak [Prescott],” Rivera stated when asked about Rush’s success. They build around Dak, and the offense is built around Dak. Their back up is a guy who is very solid in what they do. This league is quarterback-driven. If you look at the success stories of teams that have been able build around a particular quarterback, you’ll see that they have. “

The Cowboys have certainly built their team around Prescott. The Eagles have done it the same way with Jalen Hurts. Nick Sirianni, head coach, has adapted his system to accommodate the explosive abilities of his quarterback on the ground and in the air.

But have the Giants built their system around Daniel Jones? Although Brian Daboll, the head coach, and Joe Schoen, the GM, tried to start a rebuild by crunching their roster, Jones was not offered his fifth-year option. This left Jones’ future uncertain.

Daboll and OC Mike Kafka’s offensive scheme has been all about adjustments throughout the game, and they currently rank 23rd in yards per game with 333.2. They’re getting the job done with some help from Jones & Co. and clutch play of Jones & Co.

Rivera doesn’t regret choosing Wentz and will not be leaving him soon. They have faith in their quarterback, despite a rough start.

” He said that he believes their quarterback has done some great things. He said that there were a few games where he struggled but that his numbers from yesterday would show that he has had solid numbers throughout the year. He performed well yesterday and it just proves his potential. We chose him because of our belief in him. We chose him because of what we saw as pointing towards him. “
