The Toronto Maple Leafs will wear a Justin Bieber-designed alternate jersey for their Wednesday game against the New Jersey Devils, which the NHL says is “the first reversible sweater ever in North American professional sports. The jersey was created in collaboration with Bieber’s fashion brand Drew House and Adidas for the Leafs’ annual Next Gen game.
“My love of the Maple Leafs has always been part of who I am. My passion for the team and the passions of millions of fans is stitched into the Next Gen sweater,” the Canadian singer stated in a statement. “I’m grateful for the Leafs for the opportunity to team up again to make something so authentic for both the team and its fans. The on-ice jersey is primarily made of black with blue accents. The Leafs’ modern logo has a “shibori inspired” design that incorporates aspects of Japanese tie dyeing. The same pattern can be found on sleeves and socks, with an innovative Easter egg: the silhouette from the Toronto skyline subtly woven in to the bands. The jersey’s numbers are in black.
The reversible jersey, which is also in black, has a completely new design. The leaf logo is stitched to create an outline for a bright yellow maple Leaf logo with a Drew House smiley face. The numbers are reversed and the stripes are changed to yellow.
” The opportunity to collaborate with Justin to create such an unique alternate sweater will make the experience even more special for our fans.” said Brendan Shanahan (Toronto Maple Leafs president and alternate governor).
The Next Gen uniform becomes the 15th alternate uniform worn by the Maple Leafs in club history.
