John Mellencamp, a long-time friend and client, took a moment to speak while Allen Grubman, the famous entertainment lawyer for artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Mariah carey was being inducted.
Mellencamp stated that Allen was Jewish and that he brought it up to honor him.
He continued, “I cannot tell how important it is to speak up if you are an artist against antisemitism.” “I don’t give a damn, I don’t care [what you’re] like.” Here’s the trick: Silence can be complicity. Tonight, I stand here loudly and proudly in support of Allen, his family, and all my Jewish friends as well as all the Jewish people around the world.
“F-k antisemtism, and f–k anyone who says anything in this manner
Mellencamp’s comments follow antisemetic comments made in the past weeks by Kanye West, which resulted in him being dropped out of countless partnerships.
The Ahmet Ertegun Prize was awarded to Grubman, Jimmy Iovine, and Sylvia Robinson.
The 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which took place this year in Los Angeles, will air Nov. 19 on HBO.
