Julia Roberts and Sean Penn get political in the true crime series Gaslit, premiering Sunday (April 24) on Starz. The eight-part series centers on the Watergate scandal which led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation. It also focuses on the less-known, but still important, players in the former commander-in-chief’s downfall.
Roberts portrays Martha Mitchell, a outspoken Arkansas socialite who is nicknamed “The Mouth of the South.” Her husband John Mitchell (Penn), is Nixon’s most trusted advisor and campaign manager.
John realizes Martha is behind the Watergate scandal and wants to share the story with the press HTML3_ HTML3_. This causes chaos in their lives and forces John to choose between his wife and the president.
