Elton John credits teenage AIDS victim Ryan White and his family with saving his life.

The singer told the crowd at his concert in Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Friday (April 1) that he made changes in his life after spending time with White’s family. White was originally from Indiana.

” I knew my lifestyle was chaotic and out of control. John stated that six months later, he was sober and clean.

He claimed White’s family was what prompted him to make a change.

“I cannot thank them enough, because without them, I’d probably be dead,” the singer said, WTHR-TV reported.

White died in Indianapolis at age 18 on April 8, 1990. He contracted HIV from a contaminated blood transfusion years before. His mother Jeanne White-Ginder continues to have a close relationship and John acknowledged her presence at concert.
