Daniel, a native of the Catalan town of Vilafranca del Penedes, is chef and owner of B44, in San Francisco. B44 is a chic but casual bistro featuring rustic Catalan cuisine. Hailed for his "trustworthy tapas" and "peerless" paellas, Olivella's Arroz Negro was voted one of the best 20 dishes in the US by USA Today. B44 is a restaurant like those he knew in Spain, and has captured the adventurous palates of consumers.
